Duravar Plus™

Duravar Image

Duravar Plus™ is a solvent-based amber-clear high performance catalyzed varnish designed for use on wood furniture and cabinetry. It is extremely resistant to chemicals, moisture, abrasion and impact, and produces a beautiful finish having excellent depth and warmth. Duravar Plus™ is a spray-only product that is meant for use by experienced professional users.

Duravar Plus™ requires no sealer, and normally none should be used. (Contact us for exceptions.) Under no circumstances should a stearated sanding sealer be used under Duravar Plus™. It is recommended that the total dry film thickness (dft) of all coats applied should be no more than 5 mils, which can normally be achieved in two to three coats and will produce an excellent, extremely durable finish. Duravar Plus™ may be used in a wide range of situations including high wear, high moisture surfaces such as tables, chairs, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, passage doors, casings and moldings.

Duravar Plus™ must be catalyzed with ML Campbell’s C1431 CARE catalyst at a 20:1 ratio (20 parts Duravar Plus™ to 1 part catalyst), and may be reduced with ML Campbell’s C160-36 lacquer thinner or with acetone as needed to produce an appropriately smooth finish. Duravar Plus™ should be lightly but thoroughly sanded between coats with 320 grit or 400 grit sandpaper. It dries to recoat in 20 to 40 minutes (at 77º, ≤50% rh) and may be recoated any time thereafter. Once the product is catalyzed it must be used within eight hours or discarded.

Duravar Plus™ can be intermixed with ML Campbell’s WoodSong dye-stains in order to produce a tinted clear finish for use in various special effects or as a shader to help even out slight inconsistencies in grain color.

Duravar Plus™ can be sprayed using airless, air-assisted airless, HVLP or alternate compliant spray equipment.
